ROYALTON -- Bertie L. Basinger, 88, of Royalton, died at 10:02 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Herrin Hospital.
Bertie was born on Jan. 3, 1916, in Adger, Ala., to Pinkney Whaley and Katie Rosella (Watts) Basinger.
She is survived by four nieces, Vicky Sharp of Clay City, Lisa Dawn Laird of Waltonville, and Joy Hagler and Mary Lee Davis, both of Zeigler; three nephews, Dennis Basinger of Lockport, Wayne Basinger of Grenada Hills, Calif., and Larry French of Fairfield; two sisters-in-law, Velma B. Basinger of Fairfield, Mo., and Patricia Basinger of Royalton; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Alfred, Kenneth and Bruce Basinger; and two sisters, Myrtis Basinger and Edna L. Clark.
Bertie was a member of the First Baptist Church and Senior Citizens in Royalton.
She was a seamstress who last worked at Smoler Brothers clothing factory in Herrin.
Services for Ms. Basinger will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton, with Brother Ron Knox officiating. Burial will be in Miners Cemetery, located east of Royalton. Visiting hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ms. Basinger may be made to the Miners Cemetery Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed to the Cemetery Association at 3034 State Highway 184, Royalton, IL 62983.
