Civil War Veteran

Co D. 16th Indiana Infantry

Co. H. 154th Indiana Infantry

------------

Ira D Barnard. My guess is that he is buried next to his wife and nearly 19 year old daughter who died after he suddenly passed due to a massive stroke while conducting the regular business meeting of the G.A.R. Battle Ground post 464. The post's meeting had completed all business and when the motion to adjourn was made, he did not rise from the Commander's chair. They removed him to the home of Mr. Ridgeway and a physician was called. He was totally helpless and that night a second stroke rendered him unconscious. The following morning, Sunday March 29, 1896, he passed away.

The funeral took place the next day in Liberty Chapel, and he was buried in the Chapel cemetery.
