Our beloved sister and aunt, Eva Myrle Johnson, passed away on Monday morning, January 9, 2012. She passed peacefully at her home in Alpine, Utah and just five weeks into her 100th year!
Myrle graduated from Bancroft High School, in Bancroft, Idaho and later went to Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She graduated from USU in June 1936 with a major in Home Economics and a minor in English. Myrle taught school for several years. When World War II broke out (1941) she joined the Women Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and was stationed in Florida. In 1945, she entered the Army Intern Program and received her Dietitian Certificate. When the war ended (1946), she attended Kansas State University and a received a Masters Degree in Institution Management.
She then moved to Washington State to work at the Eastern State College in Cheney as its Food Service Dietician and Food Director for twenty five years. Myrle moved to Spokane, Washington in 1955. During her time in Spokane, she loved staying, working, and recreating at her mountain cabin on the shore of Priest Lake (Idaho). Myrle's Priest Lake property created lifelong and priceless memories for her, her siblings, and many of her nieces and nephews. After fifty-three years in the Cheney and Spokane, Washington areas, Myrle moved to Utah to be closer to family members. Her final residence was at the River Meadows Senior Living Center in Alpine, Utah.
Myrle was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She filled many capacities in the Church, including teaching relief society, filling a special assignment at the Seattle, Washington Temple, and attending the temples regularly, right up to the time of her passing. Myrle enjoyed working with rocks and related projects at her Priest Lake property. She loved Poodle dogs and enjoyed her hobbies of knitting, cooking, and shopping for and collecting antiques.
Myrle was particularly known for her yummy toffee candy and rice pudding. She was an earthly angel to those who knew her. She was a friend to the friendless, and she gave hope to the poor and the afflicted. She was fiercely loyal to her parents and siblings. She was a devoted daughter of God in all respects. Myrle is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers LaMar, Brian Clair, and Ariel, and sisters Jobeth, LuDean, and Marva. She is survived by her brother Rue (Dorothy).
Funeral services will be conducted in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m.
