Sister George Marie Long, O.S.U., 101, a former Madison resident, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Marian Home in Louisville, Ky.

She was a native of Cumberland, Md., and had been the first principal of Shawe Memorial High School, serving there from 1952 to 1958. She had been an educator in several schools in Louisville, including Sacred Heart Model School; Ursuline College, where she served as dean; and Sacred Heart Academy, where she was principal for 10 years. She taught in Omaha, Neb., at St. Therese, and at St. Patrick in North Platte, Neb. She also served as a teacher in Morgantown, W.Va., and at Sts. Peter and Paul in Cumberland.

Surviving are one niece, Eithne McMullen; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Mass was celebrated at 10:45 a.m. EDT Monday at Marian Home, 3105 Lexington Road, Building Two, in Louisville. The Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. EDT today, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery in Louisville.

A remembrance service for Sister George Marie's time in Madison will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
