Mary A. Leonard was the daughter of Matthew Leonard, a minister, and Lydia A. Rensinger Leonard. She married Gibson G. Gallagher on 14 Aug 1861 in Glandorf, Putnam County, Ohio. Mary was the mother of 10 children, all born in Ohio. In 1880 when her youngest was a newborn the entire family moved to Dickens, Clay County, Iowa. In 1883 Mary traveled, alone, on a trip to visit her brother John A. Leonard in Shannon, Carroll County, Illinois. While visiting, Mary died on 26 Oct 1883. She is buried next to her brother in the Shannon Brethren Cemetery (formerly known as the German Brethren Cemetery and the Dunkard Cemetery). Her stone simply says "MARY".
