MOUNT SAVAGE - George Joseph Booth Sr., 78, of 13403 Reed Road N.W., Mount Savage, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Dec. 29, 1927, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late Walter and Agnes (Spiker) Booth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Mabel Burley, Bessie Michaels, Anna Novella Booth, Agnes (Dolly) Kendall, M.Virginia McKenzie, Rosie Kubenik; four brothers, C. Leroy Booth, James Booth, William Booth, John Booth; and one grandson, Duane Booth.

George retired from Tri-State Roofing Co. after 36 years and was a current member of Local 34 Roofers Union.

He loved hunting and fishing, enjoyed multiple vacations to Canada as well as spending time with family on Piney Mountain. He was a member of Piney Mountain Hunting Club, the American Legion and Old Rail Post 6028 V.F.W.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II having served in British Guyana, Dutch Guyana, and Trinidad from 1943 to 1946.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Louise Marie (Carr) Booth; three sons, Russell W. Booth and wife Christine, Dundalk, Jackie A. Booth and wife Sandra, Hyndman, Pa., George J. Booth Jr. and wife Jackie, Mount Savage; three daughters, Brenda U'Ren and husband James, Memphis, Tenn., Judy Connelly and husband Michael, Frostburg, L. Carol Engle, Barrelville; 15 grandchildren, Rusty Booth, Lisa Hoppe, Lena Hughes, Jack Booth, Steven Booth, Kelly McHugh, Jeffrey U'Ren, Michelle Connelly-Cushwa, Chris Connelly, David Carder, Lynn Brunson, Alan W. Carder, Holly Dawson, Noel Booth and Hunter Booth; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Green, Alabama, Catherine O'Neal, Frostburg; three brothers, Raymond Booth, Alabama, Donald Booth, Barrelville, Jackie Booth, Piney Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was dearly loved by his wife, children, and grandchildren and will be sadly missed.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with Mr. Richard Luger officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of Old Rail Post 6025.

Following the services his body will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
