AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Daniel Dan M. Harris, Sr., 91, of Augusta, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11am Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Turner and Rev. Irving Pearre officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Wood, Robbie Hefner, Jim Bagby, Marty Harris, Sam Harris, Chance Verdery, and Joey Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons. A lifelong resident of Augusta, GA, he was the son of the late Rev. Leroy Harris Sr. and Effie Hoffman Harris. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired optician from Dr. John Paul Jones office. Dan was an avid fan of the Braves. He enjoyed watching, playing, and coaching baseball He also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy Harris, Jr., Charles Harris, sisters, Carolyn Hefner, Grace Pearre. He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Harris, Davisboro, GA, Phillip (Mary) Harris, Martinez, GA, Dan Harris, Jr., Appling, GA, daughter, Diann Verdery, Martinez, GA, brother, Rev. Dr. J. Hoffman Harris, Hickory, NC, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 10 - 11am in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 3880 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30909.
