Monte L. "John" Barker, age 83, of Georgetown, formerly of Corpus Christi, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2002, in Georgetown.

He was born April 6, 1918, in Williamson County to Robert and Roxie Barker. John has lived in Georgetown since 1989, formerly had lived in Corpus Christi. He was the owner and operator of L&L Carburetor and Generator Service. John liked to go fishing and hunting.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Rena Mae Barker; daughter Sandra Kay Barker; and his third wife Mattie Joan Barker.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Barker and wife, Barbara, of Round Rock, and Christopher Barker of Park Rapids, Minnesota; stepdaughter Tammy Collier of Park Rapids, Minnesota; stepson, Jay Hartmann of White Rivers, South Dakota; two brothers, Ernest Barker of Corpus Christi and Joe Barker of Georgetown; three sisters, Mamie Smith of Liberty Hill, Margaret Monroe of Jonestown, and Novella Johnson of Georgetown; three grandsons and three greatgrandchildren.

The family will receive guests for visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill.
