Walter Lee Anderson

DENISON - Walter Lee Anderson, D.D.S, born on March 9, 1929, the fourth child to the union of T.D. Anderson and Mae Christian Anderson, died on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the age of 84. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Denison, Texas. Rev. C.E. Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denison. Public viewing will be held from 4 -8 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Denison.

Dr. Anderson attended Terrell High School, received his B.S. degree at American University (Washington, D.C.) and his D.D.S. degree at Howard University (Washington, D.C.). Walter served our nation as a dental officer in the United States Air Force and retired after 25+ years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He also had a thriving and successful dental practice for four decades serving the greater San Bernardino, Calif. community in Southern California. He was a longtime, faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Pomona, Calif.

Upon returning to Denison after retirement he resumed services in his childhood church home, Hopewell Baptist Church in Denison. He also was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. While in Washington, D.C. he met and married Kathryn L. Baldwin of Paris, Texas. To this union was born their only daughter, Beverly A. Anderson, M.D., a retired pediatrician from New York City.

Walter Anderson was known for his love of family, jovial laugh and unselfish generosity. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Beverly, his three sisters, Mrs. Duressie Smith of Denison, Mrs. Clara Cosby of Berkeley, Calif. and Mrs. Evelyn Chandler of Carson, Calif. Also, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His wife, grandson and older brother, Fred Anderson preceded him in death.
