He attended Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Elementary Education) and later a Master Of Education in Administration. He taught school in Alpine School District for 42 years and was also a realtor for several years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions throughout his life. He served as Bishop, Branch President, was on the High Council, gospel doctrine teacher, choir director, Family History Coordinator, and a home teacher. As a missionary, he served in the Spanish American Mission, (Spanish Speaking) and later with his wife Jil in the Michigan, Detroit Mission (Spanish Speaking). They also served as managers of the International Office at the Missionary Training Center in Provo.
He had a beautiful singing voice and sang in choirs throughout his life. He was a member of the Brigham Young University A cappella Choir as well as the Delta Phi Choir in college. He served his country in the US armed forces (Army) for three years. Myrlon also loved nature, hiking, camping, reading, and gardening.
He passed away peacefully, at home, in his sleep, Friday, April 3, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Jilean (Jil) and his eight children, Julia Kristine, (Richard) Wooden, Miriam, (John) Bowen, Nathan (Cecilia) Abegg, Mignonne Cherie Jeppson, Paul Abegg, Rachelle (Timothy) Hanshaw, Jennifer (Michael) Cottle, and Michael (Linda) Abegg, and 24 grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Hal V. (Lela) Abegg and two sisters, Norma (William) Sullivan, and Gwen (Joe) Cowley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Dean, Lothaire, and Joseph Abegg.
Funeral services will be held at the Orem Park 8th Ward Chapel, 124 South 400 West, Orem, Utah, Friday, April 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North Orem, Utah and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be held at the Orem City Cemetery.
