Walter Arthur Brown, Sr. age 74, passed away at the Wallace Thomson Hospital at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Brown was born in Catawba County, N.C., but had made his home in Union for a number of years. He was a retired carpenter for Union Mills and was a member of West Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora Hall Brown, Union, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Stevens, Union, and Mrs. Homer Moss, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, four sons, Troy M. Brown, Ashland, Pa., Walter A. Brown, Belton, S.C., John W. Brown, and Edgar Lee Brown, both of Union, four sisters, Mrs. Essie Moss, Long Island, N.C., Mrs. Jennie Sherrill, Hickory, N.C., Mrs. Lula Broadwell, Bale, N.C., Mrs. Flona Coffer, Statesville, N.C., three brothers; Cleveland Brown, Newton, N.C., Austin Brown, Long Island, N.C. and Moses Brown, Bale, N.C., also 9 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the West Side Baptist Church by the Rev. Earl Vaughn. Interment will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery. The family will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stevens, West Main Street Extension.

The body will remain at the Brown-Bolton-Jolly Mortuary and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m., Saturday.
