He was born August 2, 1943 in Sabinal, Texas to Julio and Maria Salinas Chavez. He attended Sabinal High School in Texas, then married Alicia Alejandro April 20, 1963 in Sabinal, TX. They moved to Idaho where they have lived for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Catholic church and spent more than 40 years driving truck. He enjoyed spending time with his family and BBQ's. He also enjoyed dancing and listening to music.
He is preceded in death by six brothers: Rodolfo Arriola, Raul Arriola, Pete Chavez, Francisco Chavez, Jesus Chavez and Juan Chavez; and sister, Lupe Musquiz.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia; children, Joe (Pauline) Chavez Jr., of Rupert, Julio Chavez, of Heyburn, Mike (Elsa) Chavez, of Nampa, Mario Chavez, of Heyburn, Carmen Castillo, of Boise and Jessica (Victor) Guzman, of Boise; sister, Ramona Martinez; 12 grandchildren: Mikaela, Jordan, Joey, Nicole, Melissa, Kristine, Mario Jr., Aleesha, Annika, Lucus, Myah and Marcus; and seven great-grandchildren: Elijah, Aniyah, Neveah, Naomi, Aubree, Camilla and Payton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., in Burley, with the Rev. Julio Vicente as celebrant. A vigil service will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
