Fredericka Kapka-nee Gross, daughter of Michael and Maria Gross, was born at Morstein, Wuertenberg, Germany, Oct. 6th, 1851. She was the third of nine children. Soon after her birth she was baptized and at 14 years of age was confirmed into the Lutheran faith which she kept thruout her lif. During her childhood she received the regular elementary education of her land. In 1874 she was united in holy wedlock with John Stephen. To this union six children were born, of whom two died in infancy and on in early childhood. On January 6th, 1885 her beloved husband departed this life.
In the summer of 1892 she came to America with her children and located at Garden Prairie west of Strawberry Point. After uniting in marriage with Charles Kapka in 1893 they lived on a farm newar Arlington until 1899 when they moved to near Strawberry Point.
Lamont became their home in 1902 where she had lived since. Her second husband passed away July 20, 1931. After being confined to her bed for several seeks with what is believed to have been internal cancer or hardeing of the arteries she quietly and peacefully pass away at 6:53 pm September 25 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Weisender. Her age lacked ten days fo being 83 years.
She is survived by a brother, George Gross, of Kenosha, Wis., a sister, Mrs. Meinken of Oelwein, three children, Mrs. Fredericka Kappel, Mrs. Wilhelmina Weisender and Albert Kapke, all of Lamont. There are 11 living grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral sercies were held inthe Lutheran church conductied by Rev. Paul G. Bauer, pastor of the ST. Peters Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon, wtih burial in Compton cemtery.
