John Jenkins, 50, Noxon Merchant, Dies in Spokane

NOXON--Graveside funeral services were held Sunday for John Freeman Jenkins, 50, prominent Noxon merchant, who died Christmas day at the Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane following an illness of several weeks.

The body laid in state at the Community Methodist church from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday for friends to pay their last respects. Burial was n the Heron cemetery with the Rev. George Lee, pastor of the Noxon church, officiating.

Born in Heron in 1907, Mr. Jenkins had spent most of his life in this area except while attending college at Dillon and Cheney, Wash. He had operated Jenkins Grocery for the past 28 years. He was a member of the Thompson Falls-Noxon Chamber of Commerce.

In the past years, he had been in ill health although he continued to operate his store here most of the time. He contracted pneumonia in November and was taken to a Sandpoint hospital and later moved to Spokane where he was under the care of a specialist.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Hallie Jenkins, of the home; a stepson, George Fairweather of McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Jenkins, Noxon; two brothers, Ted of Noxon and Howard of Naples, Ida.; one sister, Ellen Innes of Burlingame, Calif.; one grandson, William Scott Fairweather.--The Sanders County Independent-Ledger, Jan. 2, 1958, Pg. 1
