Florence - Gertrude Threatt Potts, 105, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 in a local nursing home after an illness. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill, SC directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Potts, wife of the late William Potts, was born in Pageland, SC a daughter of the late Oscar Alexander and Lucy Mahaffey Threatt. She was a graduate of Wingate Junior College and Winthrop College and went on to teach public school in Lancaster, Chesterfield, and York Counties. She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Fort Mill.

Surviving are three daughters, Lucy Fugate and Cherry (Tom) Ford both of Florence and Ann (Randy) Todd of Easley; five grandchildren, one great grandchildren, and one sister, Julie Lyman of Blythewood.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Potts was preceded in death by a son, William Robert Potts.

Married in quiet ceremony on April 11, 1943 at St. John's Methodist Church, Fort Mill, by Rev. G.W. Burke. Witnesses were Miss Rosa Potts and Miss Marion Burke.

Sponsored a scholarship fund in honor of Estelle Armstrong Stewart at Wingate College. Estelle was a woman who grew up in Chesterfield County, SC and was a teacher in Pageland. I believe from family stories that she helped Gertrude in early life.
