Funeral services for Cornelius Vander Meer, 88, of Alton will be held at 1:30 this afternoon in the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. Mr. Vander Meer died at his home Monday evening.

Cornelius Vander Meer was born Nov. 10, 1866, at Portland, Ore, and came to Sioux County at an early age.

He was united in marriage to Anna Vander Mey, Sept. 29, 1894, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1944.

At the age of 24, Mr. Vander Meer established the Alton Cement Works and directed its growth for 59 years until his retirement in 1949. His son-in-law, M. C. Muilenburg, who had been a partner since 1937, then became manager.

Mr. Vander Meer served on the Alton town council for 24 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son William, who had been a missionary to China.

Surviving are two children, Floyd of Battle Creek, Mich., and Cornelia, Mrs. M. C. Muilenburg of Alton.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, including Mrs. Byron Hess of Sioux Center, and three great grandchildren.
