Emory Franklin Sanders, of the 1100 block of Jewell Ave. passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in a local hospital. He was born on September 14, 1929 in Juliette, Georgia to the late James and Thelma Smith Sanders. Emory was a proud American who retired with almost 30 years of service from U.S. Navy as a Master Chief. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth where he retired as a ship superintendent. He was a member of the Sunshine Club and Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake; the Fleet Reserve Association, DAV, VFW and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. In addition to his parents, Emory was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Rosa Lee Sanders. He is survived by his three daughters, Angelia Sanders Dail and husband Robert, Cathy Sanders Ward and husband Michael and Sharon Sanders Cook and husband John; a sister, Rosenia Durden; a brother, Terrell Sanders and his wife Dean; three grandchildren, Allen Dail and his wife Jessica, Brian Ward and Matthew Dail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
