Mr. Carl Esker Atkins, age 89, of Mt. Airy, NC, passed away on Sunday June 16, 2013 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on May 18, 1924 to the late Joe Atkins and the late Lillie Corder Atkins; in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Ivan Atkins, Clifton Atkins, Troy Atkins. He was a retired farmer and was a member of New Home Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the US Army. Surviving is his wife of 54 Years Annie Needham Atkins of the home; one daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Victor Blevins of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren Tori Blevins, Tanner Blevins and Tara Blevins; one brother and sister-in-law Lacy and Doris Atkins of Mt. Airy; one sister-in-law Beulah Atkins of Dobson; two nieces Linda Harris, Frankie Butcher, four nephews Tony Atkins, Tim Atkins, Steve Atkins and Chris Atkins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday June 20, 2013 at New Home Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Brother Tim Smith, Brother Ralph Sproles, will conduct the services. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 19, 2013 from 7PM until 9PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Ln. Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC, 27030.
