Feb 5, 1973 - Carroll Daily Times - Mrs. Etta Fobes, 100-year-old Glidden pioneer, died at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church here, with the Rev. H. Wallace Kinzler officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn-Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after noon on Tuesday; a prayer service for the family and friends will be held there at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The casket will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for viewing until the hour of rites.
Mrs. Fobes, daughter of Jacob and Mary Moore Brand, was born here March 7, 1872, at Glidden and was a lifelong resident of this community. She married Walter Fobes in Carroll County Sept. 10, 1890, and they lived on a farm north of Glidden until retiring and moving into Glidden in 1927. Mr. Fobes died in 1935. Mrs. Fobes was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Royal Neighbors, all at Glidden.
Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Leo (Stella) Miller and Mrs. Raymond (Bertha) Graves of Glidden; a son, William, of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
