STARCHER FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY NEAR SPENCER


VICTIM OF SON-IN-LAW LEAVES LARGE FAMILY OF SMALL CHILDREN


The funeral services of Merlon (Malon) Starcher, 48, who died Sunday night at the city hospital from the effects of a
gunshot wound inflicted by his son-in-law, Thurman Freeland at the Starcher home near Reedy on the evening of November
2 were conducted from the Vandale Funeral Parlors Tuesday by the Rev. W. E. Anderson and interment followed at the
Bowers Cemetery a mile East of Spencer.

Death was the direct result of Peritonitis which was caused by perforation of the intestines by a bullet which entered his left
side just below the heart and was deflected downward.

Mr Starcher is survived by his wife and seven children, Mrs Ocie Freeland 18, Johnnie 16, Generve 13, Ida 11, Onnie 8,
Geraldine 5, and Ida ( sic; Amanda ) 2 as well as several brothers and sisters who reside in Roane and Calhoun Counties.

Mr Starcher was born in Calhoun County but has spent much of his life in Roane County where he has engaged in farming up
until the time of his death.
