EMERSON CHARLES METCALF SR.

Emerson Charles Metcalf Sr., 82, of 35 Larchmont Road, Asheville, N.C. died Monday, June 6, 1983 in an Asheville health care center after a period of declining health.

A native of Madison County, N.C., he had resided in Buncombe County for the past 57 years. He retired in 1967 as a route salesman with Swannanoa Laundry after 27 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he belonged to the Victory Worker's Sunday school class. He attended Mars Hill College from 1924 until 1926.

He was a son of the late Samuel Jay Tilden Metcalf and Mary Lou Anderson Metcalf. He was one of the last survivors of the Samuel Tilden Metcalf family. He and his wife, Marguerite Louise Bradley Metcalf, observed their 57th wedding anniversary on May 3, 1983.In addition to his wife, he was survived by a son, Emerson Charles Metcalf Jr. of Asheville, N.C.; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 1983 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Dr. Cecil Sherman and the Rev. Gordon Hux officiating. Burial was in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
