JOHN A. BLACK
ARCOLA — John Andrew Black, aged 69, died in his home in Arcola Friday afternoon after an illness of over a year. Funeral services were conducted in the Arcola Baptist church Sunday afternoon by Rev. O.B. Hess, pastor of the Arcola Methodist church, assisted by Rev. S.R. Skinner. Burial was in the Arcola cemetery.
Mr. Black was born in Woodlawn, Ill., Dec. 28, 1860. Fifty one years ago he was married to Miss Serrepta Thomason, of Wayne City, Ill., who is left. They were the parents of 10 children, two of whom preceded him in death, Roy and Adda. Those left are Sterling Black of Youngstown, O.; Ira Black, Arcola; Ethel Ehrhart, Champaign; Lena East, Oakland; Ray Black, Arcola; Ralph Black, Mattoon; Luther Black, Kemp; Grace Warner, Hindsboro. He also leaves four brothers and two sisters, Oscar of Winterset, Ia.; Morton Black of Springfield; Ed of McLeansboro; and Will of Arcola; Miss Lucy Black, Arcola; and Mrs. Sarah Hall of Granite City. There are also 27 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
On Feb. 19, 1929 Mr. Black was injured in a fall on the ice and since that time had been in ill health, and for the past eight months was confined to his bed, his condition for a long time being serious.
