Stanley D. Alderfer, 79, a lifelong resident of Souderton, passed away early Sunday morning, May 6, 2001, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill, after a short illness.

He was the husband of Evelyn (Bergey) Alderfer since May 11, 1943, when they were married by the Rev. Brobst of the Telford Lutheran Church. Born in Souderton on August 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Preston S. and Lizzie (Detweiler) Alderfer.

He was a 1939 graduate of Souderton Area High School. For over 20 years, Mr. Alderfer and his wife were the owners of the former Alderfer's Food Market on Hillside Avenue until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Alderfer was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church, Souderton for almost 50 years. He was a past president of the Souderton Lions Club, an avid golfer, and enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he was survived by a daughter, Jane Rahn and her husband, Robert L., of Telford; two grandchildren, Jason Rahn and Becci (Rahn) Harwick and her husband, Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, Madasyn and Kailee Harwick, all of Telford. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul D. and Harold D. Alderfer.

His funeral service was held on Thursday, May 10, 2001 in the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., Franconia. Interment was at Zion Memorial Gardens, Franconia.
