H. O. HUTSON DIES OF WOUND

Officers Search in Vain for His Pal

Robbery at Fulton

Victim of Police Guns Buried at Prescott Tuesday

AUTO TIRES STOLEN $150 Worth Seized in Raid on J. B. Shults Store at Fulton

Wounded when he resisted arrest in connection with a series of robberies, Henry O. Hutson, 50, Prescott carpenter and fugitive, died at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning in Julia Chester hospital from a bullet that entered his back and emerged through, the abdomen. While funeral services were being held Tuesday afternoon at Prescott, officers in Hempstead and Nevada counties sought Otis Bean, a companion of the dead man who escaped in a volley of shots after officers had trapped the two on a highway viaduct, one mile east of Hope Monday afternoon.

Bean Believed Shot

Both men are residents, of Prescott. Officers said they believed Bean was wounded when Hutson was shot. An emergency operation was performed on Hutson Monday night in an attempt to save his life. The shooting occurred when Hutson and Bean fled after recognizing officers as they approached the bridge on foot. Hutson and Bean have been sought for weeks for filling station and store robberies in Nevada and Clark counties. Hutson was a carpenter and night watchman at Prescott for several years. He was a World war veteran. He and his wife separated two years ago. He has a seven-year-old son by a former marriage.

Coroner's Verdict Upholds Officers Jury Declares Officer Duty-Bound in Hutson Killing The shooting of Henry O. Hutson, 50, Prescott fugitive who died in Julia Chester hospital here from a police gun wound, was held justifiable, a verdict returned Tuesday afternoon by a Hempstead coroner's jury, said. The verdict read: "We the jury investigating the death of Henry Hutson find that Hutson came to his death at the hands of Arlicc E. Pitman, and, or, Charence Baker, duly commissioned and acting officers. "We further find that said shooting of Hutson by the above mentioned officers was justified and was done in the performance of duty as officers." The verdict was signed by Dr. F. D. Henry, A. L. Carlson, A. C. Moreland, Ed I. Rephan, Tom Wardlow, J. M. Duffie, Carl Smith, B. R. Hamm. W. H. Evans, C. S. Walker, Chester Harwell. Jett Williams and Dr. J. H. Weaver. Hempstead coroner. Otis Bean, companion of Hutson who eluded officers at a highway viaduct one mile north of Hope where the shooting occurred Monday after noon, apparently had made good his escape Wednesday. No trace of him has been found. Beau and Hutson were sought by officers for a series of robberies in Nevada and Clark counties.
