Katherine "Katie" Miller was born on February 20, 1883 in Lawrence Township, Washington County, Ohio. She was the third of four children born to Louis Phillip and Philippina "Phoebe" (Young) Miller.

She grew up on the family farm in Fearing Township. She was full German, both her maternal and paternal grandparents were born in Germany.

She married August Franklin Spinder, son of Jacob and Caroline (Close) Spindler, on September 8, 1907 in Stanleyville, Washington County, Ohio. They were united in marriage by Pastor William C. Kampmeier.

Together August and Katherine had eight children: Norman Franklin (1907-1940), Clarence Edward (1908-1910), Hilda Margaret (1911-1991), Louis Jacob (1913-1997), Frances (1915-), Grace Marie (1917-2002), Helen Mae (1919-1983) and Mildred (1922-2003).

She passed away on August 3, 1969 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. She was buried at St. Jacob's Cemetery. At the time, she was survived five daughters, one son, sixteen grandchildren and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons.
