Flora Irene Gilbert
Flora Irene Cox passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. She was born on July 2, 1920 in Nespelem to Elmer and Nellie (Warehouse) Cox. She was one of six children.
Flora married Frank Edward Gilbert on November 2, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Flora was a homemaker and they had two children. Frank was an inspector for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. His work moved the family to many locations in the western United States including Utah, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and California. The family moved to Willows, Calif., in 1966 and Frank retired in 1972.
Flora was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Willows. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a dedicated wife and mother who also took great pleasure in knitting, crocheting, gardening and passing time with her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas, in October of 1986 and her husband, Frank, in July of 1989.
Flora is survived by her daughter, Carol Morgan (Gary) of Corning; her brother, Ira Cox of Okanogan; granddaughters, Kristine (Morgan) Durfee (John) of Cottonwood, Calif., and Bryanne (Gilbert) Taylor (Brian) of Yuba City, Calif.; grandsons, Scott Morgan (Nora) of Denver, Colo. and Jake Gilbert of Yuba City, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Tanner Durfee and Summer and Drake Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Willows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in her memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Information contributed by a visitor: Flora Cox married her husband Frank E. Gilbert in Elko, Nevada. They had a double wedding with Chessie Lou Mellen and Joseph Pollary. They were married on November 2, 1946. Each couple witnessed the marriage for each other. Chessie and Flora worked together at the Alex Steakhouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, as waitresses and were friends. Flora and Frank intoduced Chessie to Joe Pollary. They were each married by William W. Willis, Justice of the Peace in White Pine County, Nevada. All four of them lived in Salt Lake.
