He attended elementary and high school (Box Elder HS) in Brigham City, UT. He served in France and Germany during World War I, participating in the Battle of the Argonne. Following military service, he worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1933. He was an Aaronic priesthood advisor, Sunday school teacher, and home teaching supervisor. He and his wife served a 30-month LDS mission to Denmark in 1958-61.

He married Agnes Northman Mortensen on December 21, 1921 in Salt Lake City UT; she was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, the daughter of Jens Michael Mortensen (1868-?) and Judith Carolina Northman (1872-1946).

He was the son of the late Niels Peter Anderson and Hansine Elizabeth Nielson Anderson (they married on June 20 1888 in Cache County, UT). He was the brother of the late Anna Elizabeth Anderson Trost.

Survivors include three sons: Jack N Anderson (columnist), Bethesda, MD; Warren L Anderson, Karachi, Pakistan; Gordon L Anderson, Salt Lake City; 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Afton Jensen, St. George; and two brothers, Rulon Anderson and Elmer Anderson, both of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 1, 1990, at Russon Brothers mortuary in Salt Lake City, followed by interment.
