Organized Crime Figure. Hill was a courier for the national crime syndicate, shuttling thousands of dollars from one mobster to the next, even overseas. On a mission to Mexico, she was able to pave the way for future drug smuggling routes. She purportedly slept with many gangsters, but was most famously known as being Bugsy Siegel's mistress. In June 1947, Siegel was assassinated in Hill's Beverly Hills mansion. In 1951, Hill was summoned before the Kefauver Rackets Committee where she denied any knowledge of organized crime. In 1954, the government indicted her for tax evasion, leading her to flee to Europe with her new husband, Hans Hauser, a ski instructor. They eventually separated. She died on the ski slopes of Salzburg, Austria after ingesting a heavy dose of sleeping pills.
