James Roy Carwile, 78, of Abilene, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at a local medical center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott- Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Chaplain James Teel officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

He was born on May 19, 1923, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Leroy and Melissa Della Skaggs Carwile. He received a Bachelors Degree in Science from Hardin-Simmons University in 1948. He was refinery manager for Anderson Clayton, retiring after 37 years.

He married Marjorie Ruth Rudd in Abilene on December 18, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2001. Mr. Carwile was a member of First Baptist Church in Abilene, and a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II. He was active in Texas Cottonseed Crushers and a member of the V.F.W.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Carwile and wife, Kelley, of Fredericksburg, and Randall Carwile and wife, Cricket of Weatherford; and five grandchildren, Travis, Gary, and Randall of Weatherford and Cameron and Carrie Ann of Fredericksburg.

Pallbearers will be Howard Gardner, John Wooten, Bob Stuerzenberger, Dale Scott, Loy Gordon and Charles Dortch.
