A US Navy veteran, Mr. Eckroth served with the 81st Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) during WWII, participating in the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach and the assault on Okinawa. He retired in 1973, working at both Olmsted Air Force base and New Cumberland Army Depot where he worked as a plumber/ steamfitter. He was a life member of the VFW, and was a member of the American Legion, Elizabethtown Senior Citizens and the Milton Grove Sportsman Club.
Mr. Eckroth is survived by three children: David L. (Barbara) Eckroth, Harrisburg; A. Ray (Janie) Eckroth, Elizabethtown and Janice A. (Dale) Miller, Columbia; six grandchildren: Debbie, John, Kelly, Brian, Ashley and Alana; six great grand children and a sister Edith M. Twitty, Clearwater, FL.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Richard N. Eckroth.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 South Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown at 11:30 AM. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place in Elizabethtown Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren or to a charity of your choice .
