Alford Luther Chenoweth (L.A. Chenoweth) went by his middle name, Luther. He was the only surviving child of Elisha Arthur Chenoweth and Martha Jennie Steele. By the time he was 15 years old he was living in Allison, Decatur County, Kansas with his Mother, M.J. Chenoweth (nee: Steele) and Uncle Henry Clay Steele & Aunt Mary Isabelle "Belle" Steele's family. (nee: Chenoweth)

NOTE: Mary Isabelle Chenoweth is the sister of Elisha Arthur Chenoweth.

On April 12, 1900, Luther (20) married Mary "Pearl" Bell (19) in Oberlin, Decatur County, Kansas. On June 1, 1900, Luther was the Enumerator for the Twelfth Census of the United States for Allison Township, Decatur, Kansas. Luther's occupation at the time was a Farmer and he owned his own farm free from mortgaged.

In 1907 Luther moved his family to Jennings, Kansas and started his career as a Rural Mail Carrier. He delivered mail for thirty-seven years. Thirteen years by horse and buggy and then with a Ford Model T.
