Descended from the Routh and Coit families, he was a geologist for Erik Jonsson, Geological Services Inc., and Texas Instruments in such locations as Dallas, Malaysia, and Calgary, Alberta. It was in Calgary that he met and married Margaret Hatcher, his wife for over sixty years. Survived by daughters Mary Margaret Hill and Connie Coit Kitchens, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
