Son of Percy C. Graham & Monabell Adelaide (Gloucester) Graham,
Married Thelma Hyatt, 15 Apr 1944; parents of four children: Sandra Graham, T. Jane (Graham) Dwyer, Linda Graham and Philip Alvin Graham, Jr.
Graduate of Swampscott High School and Boston University.
He served in the U.S. Navy for five years during WW II; served in the Massachusetts State Senate (R) from 1951-1965

"Philip A.. Graham, GOP leader and former state senator; at 83
Philip A. Graham, a former state senator from Hamilton and a leading spokesman for the Republican Party on Beacon Hill for nearly 16 years, died Monday in his sleep at his home in Newberry. He was 83.
Mr. Graham was born in Lynn. He attended Lynn and Swampscott schools and Boston Unmiversity. During World War II he served in the Navy for five years.
He began his political career on the Swampscott School Committee. He was first electedto the state Senate in 1951. He was a leading GOP member and served for many years as minority leader. While in office, he championed the state sales tax and was an aggressive foe of inefficiency and corruption in state government who rallied against 'big money' and kept the Democratic leadershop on it's toes.
He was often refered to as "Turkey Graham' becaude he and his wife owned a turkey farm in Hamilton.
He left the Senate in 1965, during his eighth term in the upper branch, after suffering a serioud heart attack during a speaking engagement on the North Shore.....
He leaves his wife, Thelma (Hyatt); three daughters, Sandra of Northhampton, T, Jane Graham-Dwyer of Salem, and Linda of West Newbury; a son, Philip, Jr of Newbury; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.Friday in First Parish Church in Newbury. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Newbury." {end transcription - hmh)
