Jim Clay, 82, of Wytheville, Va., formerly of Sylvester, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the home of his stepdaughter, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 18 siblings; a son, Sharell Clay; and a daughter, Jean Clay. Jim had resided in Wytheville, Va., for the past 29 years. He was a member of the Original Church of God, where he served as superintendent for may years. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Clay; three sons, Phillip and Kim Clay of Tennessee, Don Clay and Ronnie and Karen Clay, both of Illinois; one daughter, Lorene Hyde of Winfield, W.Va. He is also survived by two stepdaughters and their husbands, Kathy and Carness Bragg of Leewood, Ann and Jack Kelly of Seng Creek; four stepsons and their wives, Mike and Michele Hannah of Whitesville, Benny and Iris Hannah of Alabama, Frank and Dreama Hannah of Seng Creek, Wilson and Sally Hannah of Beaver; a daughter-in-law, Carol Clay of Illinois; one sister, Cosby Combs of Sylvester; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Valley Funeral Home, Whitesville with the Rev. Bill Dale and the Rev. Penny Dale officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, W.Va. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
