Teresa was born in New York City to Anthony and Giacomina (nee Tramuto) Lipani. Her parents’ names appear as Tony and Minnie in Census records after 1910. Anthony was born in 1877 and Giacomina was born in 1878. Anthony worked in a tailor shop.

Teresa had two siblings: John (born circa 1904) and Anthony, Jr. (born circa 1910) According to the 1925 NYS Census John was working as an apprentice printer. Teresa had a job at a boutique..

Teresa was living 1270-62nd Street, Brooklyn, NY in 1930. On September 20, 1930 she married Jesse Orlano Torregrossa. The wedding took place at St. Rosalia's R.C. Church in Brooklyn. Witnesses to the wedding were Alfonso Lapera and Eleanor Torregrossa.

Teresa and Jesse had two children, Catherine (b.c. 1931) and Jesse, Jr. (b.c. 1933).

Note: Teresa’s name sometimes appears as Theresa in the Federal and NYS Census entries but the Marriage Certificate and the headstone on her burial plot use the spelling of Teresa.
