Mrs. J. E. (Mina Everett Garrett) Jackson, 95, retired Baptist missionary to China, Japan, and the Philippines, died Saturday, Aug. 5 1989, at Meadow Creek Nursing Home in San Angelo, Texas. Born in Mcgregor, Texas, she was the daughter of Claude H. and Annie Capps Garrett and sister of the late Jack V. Garrett of San Angelo. She grew up and taught school in Richland Springs, Texas. She graduated from Baylor University in 1921 and was appointed to China that year. She married Rev. John Edward Jackson in Shanghai in 1922 and served 38 years as a missionary, living through part of the Japanese occupation of China before World War II and the communist takeover in 1949, before going to the Philippines in 1951. The Jacksons served in Japan in 1927-28. After retirement, they lived in Columbia, South Carolina until Mr. Jackson's death in 1973. Mrs. Jackson has lived in San Angelo, Texas since January 1981. She is survived by one daughter and 3 sons and 8 grandchildren. Published in San Angelo Standard Times and The Columbia State.
