William H. Bennett, 86, of Middletown, a decorated World War II veteran, died March 12 at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harrison and Anna Finley Bennett. He lived in Lansdowne before moving to Middletown 56 years ago.
Mr. Bennett was a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 45 years, retiring in 1984. He previously worked at Gimbel Brothers Department Store in Philadelphia.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a 1st Lieutenant with the Fifth Army Air Force, 13th Bombing Squadron, Third Bombing Group. He also completed the Engineer School of the U.S. Army Engineer Officer Candidate School. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal the World War II Victor Medal the Asiatic Pacific Medal with eight battle stars the Air Medal the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star.
He was a member of the Slook Montaque Post 354, VFW in Philadelphia and Calvary Episcopal Church. Mr. Bennett enjoyed photography and working with computers.
Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Edythe Conrad Bennett daughter, Ivy Ann Bennett of Media sister, Marie Timiskas of Vilas, N.J. brother, Robert Bennett of Wilmington, Del. nieces, nephews.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Episcopal Church, Mount Road, Aston.
Visitation: 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial: Calvary Episcopal Church Cemetery.
