Louisa Dillon was one of several children born to James Dillon and Sarah Ward Dillon. James (born abt 1785 in Winchester, Frederick Co, VA) and Sarah married on 21 Sep 1810 in Frederick Co, VA. Their daughters were all born in Ohio (either Clinton Co. or Highland Co.), as early as 1811. James (Sr.) is said to have died 13 Jan 1817 in Clinton Co, OH. His widow, Sarah, married (2nd) George Achor on 1 Jan 1818 in Highland Co, OH.

There is ample proof that Lydia Dillon, Louisa Dillon, and Susannah-Susanna-Susanah Dillon were sisters. See for example, a Highland Co, OH, record of the appointment of James Reese as their guardian on 20 Oct 1817. The closeness of the supposed dates of birth for Lydia and Louisa is puzzling. A biographical sketch of Lydia for which she probably provided the information, because she was still alive when it was published (1880 History of Keokuk County, Iowa), says she was born in July 1811 in Highland Co, OH. An obituary after her death (see American Friend Obituary Index) similarly suggests a July 1811 date of birth. As for Louisa, the death date from her tombstone (May 6, 1893) and the age from the tombstone (81 years, 6 months) suggest a date of birth of about Nov 6, 1811). She was listed as age 36 in the 1850 census (which would suggest a later date of birth), but she was listed as 68 in the 1880 census, and the latter would be consistent with a November 1811 date of birth. Under the circumstances, the best that can be said about the dates of birth of Lydia and Louisa is that there is confusion about them. But both of them were obviously born before their sister Susannah-Susanna-Susanah, who was born 16 Aug 1815.

Louisa married John Hiatt on 13 June 1833 in Highland Co, OH. He apparently died abt 1846, probably in Perry Twp, Delaware Co, IN, where his widow Louisa was listed in the 1850 census. For unknown reasons, the census seems to be unavailable (Apr 2014) on Family Search. William Perry Johnson quotes it in his Hiatt-Hiett Genealogy (p. 348): "1850 Census, Perry Twp., Delaware Co., Indiana, Louisa Hiatt, 36, Ohio; James D., 15, O., Farmer; Lydia J., 12, O.; Angeline, 10, O.; Enoch, 8, O.; Joseph, 7, O.; Sarah A., 4, O.

Lydia Jane "L. Jane" Hiatt Hodson, was born in Ohio in Dec 1837. One of the sons must have been the father of a 2-year-old child named Mary Hiatt who was a niece of the Hodsons and was living with them and with Louisa Dillon Hiatt in the 1880 census in Atlantic Twp, Cass Co, IA.
