Ida Frances (Granny Ida) Pressley Chatham, 84, of 117 Austin Drive, Anderson, made her triumphant entrance into Heaven at 7:30 PM August 3, 2002.

Her loving husband, William (Shorty) Chatam preceded her in death. She was the daughter of the late Mack and Nonie (Henderson) Pressley. She was born in Laurens July 4th, 1918. She was reared in the Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, S.C.

She lived in Anderson most of her life and was employed in textiles and the food industry.

Her son, James Edward Baggott of the home and her daughters survive her: Mrs. Jo Anne (Wes) Smith, of Marietta, Georgia and Mrs. Cathy (Jimmy) Taylor of Anderson. Two stepdaughters raised in the home: Mrs. Betty (Gus) Sutton of Central and Mrs. Beatrice (Thurman) Sparks of Johnson City, Tenn. Her three daughter�s in-law she loved like her own: Ruth Baggott of Central, Bessie Baggott of Anderson and Esther Bowman of Iva. Twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many dozen of others she treated as her own.

Three sons, Andrew Judson (A.J.) Baggott, Theodore E. Bowman and Jacky Bowman preceded her in death.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included her brothers: John Bridges,Paul Pressley, Jessie Pressley, and Dewitt Pressley. Her sisters: Mamie Phillips, Bessie Irene Taylor, Katie Pressley, Susie Carver and Nellie Bishop.

Granny Ida had a heart that touched everyone and was much beloved by all who met her. Her grandchildren, and those who felt like grandchildren, will always have wonderful memories of her. Whether she was teaching them to fist, swim, play games or how to sneak a peak at Christmas presents without getting caught. Above all she wanted them to live as happily as possible. She was a wonderful mother who taught her children by example how to love others and love God.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday Aug. 6, 2002 at 2 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Harrell officiating. Burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery. The body is at Woodlawn Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 5 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Her pallbearers will be Grandsons and cousins. The family will be at the home of granddaughter, Annette Hickey, 106 Ray Ben Lane, Anderson.
