A resident of Hazelton, Idaho, 92-year-old Richard "Dick" Carlquist passed away at his home causes incident to age. Born one hour and fifteen minutes after his twin sister, Natalie, he was the fourth child of Ethel Rich and Carl Hjalmar Carlquist of Salt Lake City. Utah. Graduating from East High School, Class of 1929, he was a lifelong learner. In 1929 his family moved to Draper where he met Willa Fitzgerald. Married December 2, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, they were the parents of four children: Brian, who was killed in Vietnam in 1965, Lynn, Douglas and Julie. From 1929 to 1977, he farmed in Draper. Willa, along with their sons, Lynn and Douglas, moved to Hazelton to farm, where he continued to farm until 2002. His farming experience spanned from a draft horse to using four-wheel drive John Deere tractors. For more than 40 years he served as a member of the board and president of the Draper Irrigation Company. In addition to serving on the Salt Lake County Soil Conservation Board, the Utah Lake and Jordan Dam Commission, the non-partisan committee to consolidate city and county governments in Salt Lake County in 1974, and the Draper Town Council, he was an active member of The Church of Jesus of Latter-days Saints. His Church leadership positions included ward clerk, bishop's counselor, high council member of the Mount Jordan, Utah Stake, and from 1983 to 1984 a mission to the Columbus Ohio Mission, where he served as branch president of the Coshocton Branch.

His wife, Willa Carlquist; sons, Lynn (Peggy) Carlquist and Douglas (Melanie) Carlquist; daughter, Julie (Dayle) Woolston; twin sister, Natalie Day, and sister, Edith Reed; a brother, Capt. Roger (Amante) Carlquist, USN (Ret.); brother-in-law, Douglas (Elaine) A Smith; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren survived him. His parents; his brothers, Philip and Stephen; his sister, Mary Stewart, Ethel Woolstenhulme and Roberta Smith; his son, Brian; and his great-granddaughter, Kourtney Carlquist predeceased Dick.
