Knight, Keeper of the Pamper Forest. In right of his wife, of Basing, Hampshire, of Halnaker, Sussex.

Younger son of Sir Thomas Poynings of Poynings, Sussex and Alice de Rokesley, daughter of Sir Richard.

Second husband of Isabel de Saint John, daughter of Lord Hugh Saint John and Mirabel Wake, widow of Henry de Burghersh who died in November of 1348. They were married before 29 Jan 1349 and had one son and one daughter; Thomas and Joan, the wife of Sir Henry de Ferrers.

Sir Luke was summoned to Parliament in Feb 1368 whereby he became Lord Saint John of Basing. Luke was overseas in the King's service in 1370 with ten men-at-arms. Luke died between 05 June and 04 July 1376, buried at Warnford. Isabel died on the 16th or 17th of October 1393.
