Ray Maples, 71, of Huntsville, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at his residence after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; five brothers and sisters of Somerville, Bobby Maples, Charles Maples, Ferrell Maples, Janice and Joyce Maples; sister and brother-in-laws, Cheryl and Lilly Maples of Somerville, Gayle and Rusty Morrow of Lowndesboro, and Tammie and Mike Lunceford of Birmingham.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ray received his Bachelor's Degree in Math from Saint Bernard College in Cullman and Master's Degree in Engineering from the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He worked several years in engineering for defense contractors and the government until he retired in the late 1990's.
Ray was a member of Valley Hill Country Club for over 30 years and a member of Latham Memorial United Methodist Church. Ray had varied interest in life that allowed him to mentor young people on the golf course as well as through music and other activities.

Visitation and service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Latham Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.
A private burial will be held in Somerville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Latham United Methodist Church for the "Hands of Christ" Fund.
