Barbara was the daughter of Peter Ingold, Jr. (1775-1820) and Barbara Low (1775-1848). She married David Peter Coble, Sr. abt 1821 in Guilford County, North Carolina; they had 18 children: Salome "Sally" (Coble), Nancy Theresa (Coble), Paul, Iphania "Fama" (Shoffner), Elizabeth (Coble), Harvey, Rebecca (Field), Wesley, Jacob P., Barbara Caroline (Magee), Emily J. (Renfro), Lovina E., David Peter, Jr., Anelia, Jeremiah Monroe, Mary "Polly", George Sellers and Letha Ann (Moore).
Barbara and David Coble(Sr) left with the chldren of their family for Missouri in the early 1850's. Her later life is uncertain. Some researchers believe that she and David separated during the trip and she returned to Guilford County; while others believe that she continued with the family to Missouri where she and David divorced. All agree that David retained custody of the children. Most researchers believe she died about 1856, but there is disagreement on whether her death was in North Carolina or Missouri.
