Rites Monday For Albert Giesen
Albert Giesen passed away at his home in O.C. Thursday, Oct. 30 at 1:45 in the afternoon, after a lingering illness.
Mr. Giesen was born in the Netherlands, Feb. 13, 1881 and came to America at the age of 21.
He was married to Agnes Dykstra of O.C. Jan. 11, 1912 and lived in the O. C. vicinity 45 years.
He started in business with Faber in March, 1925, the Faber and Giesen Grocery, and a year later with Herwynen. He continued in business for 13 years, until 7 years ago when he took over sole management. He retired Nov. 11, 1946.
Besides being active in business Mr. Giesen was a faithful laborer in the work of God's kingdom, and served for many years as II deacon and later as an elder and a Sunday School teacher in the First Ref. Church of O.C.
He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters: Ella Hermina, Mrs. Harold De Jager, and Elizabeth Lois, Mrs. Lloyd De Jong, both of O. C.
A son, Nanning, preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 1933.
Surviving also are a sister, Mrs. T. Jansen of Worthington, Minn., and 2 sisters in the Netherlands.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Ref. Church of O. C. with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery. The Van Etten Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
