1850 census Caldwell County NC shows born about 1815 in Burke County. Caldwell County did not exist at that time so probably was actually born in the present day Granite Falls area Caldwell County NC.
1860 census living in Green TN shows born about 1811
Civil War - serviced in NC 58th INF CSA - He had taken his son Isaac Martin Richards place for some reason for awhile. I have a copy of letter a officer had written Isaac about his fathers death of sickness on 12-25-1862. Also ask Isaac for some money John owed him when he died. Also have a couple letters John had written home before he died. He name was left off the list of soldiers that died in Jacksboro TN. He was my great great grandfather. He can be found on the Caldwell County NC 1850 census Summers District along with his wife Martha, sons Isaac Martin Richards CSA and son John Wesley Richards CSA.
