John D. Butkovich, of 1201 S. Santa Fe. April 10, 1980.

Husband of Mrs. Anna M. Butkovich, who passed away July 1, 1975.

Father of Mrs. Mary Ann DeVries and Joseph Butkovich, Pueblo, and Albert Butkovich, Denver. Predeceased by a son, John R. Butkovich, Feb. 3, 1980. Survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Butkovich was a lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union St. Jacob Lodge No. 402. He devoted 32 years of his life as a supreme board member and had attended every convention since 1912, including the most recent one in Toronto, Canada.

He served as supreme president of the Croatian Fraternal Union at its Pittsburgh headquarters for 16 years and was then designated as president emeritus. Additionally, he was a member of the knights of Columbus Pueblo Council No. 557, the bishop Joseph C. Willging Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Columbus Chalice Club. He was a papal knight of St. Gregory and was quite active in the Democratic Party for many years, serving as precinct caucus chairman.

Mr. Butkovich originated the Slovenian Radio Hour over 30 years ago and the program is still broadcast. He was co-owner with his son., the late John R. Butkovich. In the operation of Butkovich Mercantile.

He opened the store shortly after his marriage in 1915.
