He passed away at the age of 91, and had been a resident of Kokomo, IN. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, in 1999. They were married in 1946, and had been married for 52 years. He will be dearly missed by his children, Linda Hyman, and David Ashenfelter.

He was raised in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from high school in 1939. He then worked with his father in his plastering business. He enlisted in 1942 in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII. During the air campaign in Europe, he loaded P-38 fighter planes with bombs and bullets. He returned to his father's plastering business after leaving the military. He and his family moved to Kokomo in 1957. He ran and later took over his father's tool rental business, which was Kokomo Rental & Sales. In addition, he sold steel scaffolds for Bil-Jax, of Archbold, Ohio. He chose to retire in 2004.
