**according to his obituary, Byard was born in Keysers Ridge, a small "community" in Garrett County, but it is not recognized by FAG.

Bayard Butler Weds Miss Nellie Purnell

GRANTSVILLE, July 5 - Bayard F. Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Butler, Grantsville, and Miss Nellie Purnell, daughter of Mrs. Mary Purnell, Oakland, were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Oakland, Sunday morning, June 2nd, by the Pastor, the Rev. Minor Sprague.

Butler returned home from Germany with the 86th (Black Hawk) Division, which landed at New York June 17. He has been overseas since December 1944 with the 311th Engineers as a truck driver.

Butler hs been in the army for 30 months. At the expiration of a 30 day furlough, he will report to Fort Meade for assignment to the Pacific.

Byard F. Butler, 81, of Garrett, formerly of Meyersdale, died November 17, 2003, in Summit Township. Born July 13, 1922 at Keysers Ridge, Garrett County, MD. A son of the late Benjamin and Nora (Durst) Butler. Also proceeded in death by his first wife, the former Nellie C. Purnell; a sister Eleanor, and two brothers, Gordon and Blaine.

Survived by his second wife Mary (Arnold) Werner Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Goldie Beachy, Grantsville, MD; six step-children: Charlene Wright, Rockwood; Marjorie Bird, Somerset; Brenda Snyder, Rockwood; Richard Bird, Somerset; Clyde Werner, Jr., Hooversville; Jennifer Werner, Rockwood. Also eleven step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

Attended the Hostetler Church of the Brethren. A veteran of WWII where he served in Europe and the Pacific. Former Vice President and member of the Meyersdale Borough Council for fourteen years. Retired from Clappers Building Materials with 45 years of service.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted 11 AM Thursday. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
