Mrs. B. De Jong

Mrs. Berend De Jong passed away at her home in Rock Valley Monday, March 5th, 1945 at the age of 87 years, one month and 25 days.

Fekeltje De Vries was born at Drachten, Friesland, the Netherlands on January 8, 1858.

She was married to Berend De Jong on May 12, 1879 and to this union eleven children were born, three of whom preceded her in death, namely Robert, Rev. Otto and Mrs. Dick Niekerk.

Mr. and Mrs. De Jong and one son came to America in 1882 and settled near Grand Rapids. After four years they came to Sioux county. The last years of their life were spent in her home in Rock Valley. Her husband preceded her in death 18 years ago January 23, 1927.

She is survived by eight children, Mrs. Wm. Ruisch and Mrs. Arend Vander Bok of Rock Valley, Mrs. John Ruisch, Mrs. L. A. Brunsting and Herbert De Jong of Sioux Center. Rev. Benjamin De Jong of Ashton, Miss Jennie De Jong of Canton, S.D., and Rev. Frank De Jong of Bellflower, Calif.

She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and two brothers, John and Otto De Vries and a sister, Mrs. B. Vant Hul of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Vander Bok, and at the Christian Reformed church with Rev. Herman Kuyper in charge.
Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
