Mrs M A Hawn was born November 2, 1844 at the old Farmer homestead. At the age of 24 she became the wife of James W Hawn. They had one son who died at the age of 11. Her husband preceded her to the grave about 27 years ago. She leaves one brother, J C Farmer and one sister, Mrs Lottie McNeil.
Her brother and family have taken care of her since her age and physical condition have been such that she could not care for herself. She was able to go about until the morning of September 12th, when she had something like a light stroke of paralysis and at 10 a.m. September 13, she passed away.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev A T Malone at the New Home church, with burial at the Hebbertsburg cemetery.
"Mother Hawn" as Rev Malone called her, has truly been a mother to this community where she was born and spent her life. No night was ever so dark or cold that Mother Hawn was not found at the bedside of the sick. She joined the Christian church about 50 years ago. Since the death of her husband, she has lived near the home where she was born.
